About David Cairns
As an older man I have gained experience through life and expertise through continuous study. I have a degree in psychology, postgraduate diplomas and certificates in mental health, a Masters in Suicidology and a now a Certificate in Fitness NZ. From an early age I have shown compassion and empathy for my fellow man and challenged myself in many different helping roles. Fourteen years as a Corrections Officer, more than 30 years as a volunteer Ambulance Officer and Paramedic, 12 years in suicide prevention, years as a youth leader, youth group manager and sport coach. I have seen firsthand the importance of both personal and community wellbeing. This led to the study and use of community engagement, systems change, collective impact, positive enquiry and other models of collective wellbeing. I have helped many people in times of crisis and now want to spend the rest of my working life helping people enjoy both work and play in safe environments. People who have heard me speak remark how I keep things real. I would love to meet you, reach out if you think I can have a positive impact on your community’s health and wellbeing.
